This weeks “Hobie Blast from the Past” is from the Hobie 14 Nationals 2004, Theewaterskloof, South Africa.
The Hobie 14 fleet is thriving in NSW with a big revival that is getting stronger. All the chatting about the Nationals this year got me thinking about that great “little” boat that cemented a brand and a lifestyle in the history books.
Hobie racing, be it social club racing, Nationals or Worlds has drawn people together and created holidays, expeditions and friendships that can last a lifetime.
I grew up on a H14 in the early 80’s and I still love the boat. I remember spending endless hours with my brother, each on a H14, in the surf at Cape Receif, a perfect break for a Hobie. That was late 80’s !
In 2004 my Dad and I competed in the Hobie 14 Nationals ! My Dad was 79 years old and the youngest competitor was 13yrs old.
I have got to race Hobie Catamarans on 5 continents at some of the most amazing venues and met some of the best people, all drawing together by the same love !
WHERE has your Hobie taken you ?
