Hobie Fishing News
Now in its 10th season, the Hobie Kayak Bream Series has just finished up its second event for 2018. With Forster being a renowned bream arena, many Queenslanders make their way down each year to tough it out with the brute Forster bream. This year was no exception, with about a dozen of our customers trying their luck at securing a podium position. Unfortunately it was not to be for the QLD battalion with NSW dominating the top three spots…Needless to say, it’s great to see most ended up in the top half of a 75 strong field!
While we wait until June to get our round up here on the Gold Coast, it is a good time to think about whether you might be interested in having a go at tournament kayak fishing…with a ‘first timer’ entry; you can experience the Bream Series for yourself – at no cost! With a prize pack up for grabs for bringing home the biggest two day weight; you’ve got nothing to lose and a prize pack to gain.
To find out more on the Bream Series, head over to http://www.hobiefishing.com.au or contact either shop. The fun awaits!
With the weather creeping back up into the high 20’s and the water temp also rising – the fish are now working their way onto the flats. With the MirageDrive® making it capable to get onto and over the shallowest of areas, the Power-Pole Micro allows for you to then ‘stake out’ in your desired location and cast away. No matter how fast the wind and water are moving – you won’t be. With Power-Pole’s signature strong hold, the Power-Pole Micro Anchor gives you a smooth stop on the spot in minimal time.
For use on the Outback or Pro Angler series, we currently have both new and used stock in stores. A great asset for any angler!
Not only did Hobie® release the new Mirage® Compass, they have also come out with a new range of colours, a ‘V2’ MirageDrive® 180, accessories and insignia! Slate blue, sea grass green and papaya orange have now made it onto the color chart in lieu of Caribbean blue and golden papaya – Ivory dune, camo and red hibiscus remain. Accessories include the new Pro Angler mounting boards and track system (as seen on Mirage Compass). While not in stock just yet, we are looking forward to seeing all the features soon.
The Pro Angler 17T has had a spike in popularity in recent weeks, the feature packed tandem kayak offers unbeatable space, stability and functionality – all whilst being propelled by the efficient MirageDrive 180. We love the fact they are receiving more attention, the versatility and value of these kayaks make the decision making process for most, very easy!
Round 12 of the Hobie Kayak Bream Series makes its way to Forster, NSW this weekend for a two-day competition that is expected to tip the 100 angler mark. A favourite venue for many (mainly due to the heart-in-mouth oyster rack fishing), Forster offers a huge arena that holds some brute bream. Looking at the current entry list, it is great to see another Sunstate Hobie Fishing Team stacked lineup! To all those members fishing, we wish you all the best down there and remember that the ‘oyster rack love’ (scratches for those unaware) will ‘buff out’ 😉 Do us proud! We will be keeping our eyes glued to the live weigh-in at Hobie Fishing Australasia Facebook page.
Until next week

Another cracking day with another great turnout! 37 anglers took to the Mooloolah River and surrounding canals on Sunday hoping to catch their limit of four bream. High-pressure and clear water made it tough for many anglers and it also meant it was anyones game!
33 of 37 anglers returned with fish to weigh and it was great to see another strong QLD contingent battling it out for the win. QLD dominated the top 10 and it was great to see fishing team member Stephen Crawley make it onto the podium in 3rd – well done Steve! Tyson Hayes (9th) and Stephen Maas (10th) also finished in the top 10 – great job boys.
As always, we cannot thank Steve, Jim and Bob enough for making the Hobie Bream Series the best in the Country. Their hard-work makes the events a pleasure to be a part of and it ensures we all can have some fun out on the water fishing with mates. Thanks guys!
Special thank you has to go to Mal and Trish for their ongoing support for the Series, I’m sure I am speaking on behalf all anglers in saying thank you! we do appreciate your efforts in hosting the events and making sure we all have a stress free day(s).
With Mooloolaba now done and dusted, so is the QLD stint of the Hobie Kayak Bream Series for 2017. We hope you have all enjoyed the two events and we look forward to seeing you in 2018!
