Well not quite………… but after what seems like forever, we are finally relocating our Sunshine Coast headquarters from the serenty of the shores of beautiful Lake Macdonald, to the heart of Sunshine Coast action, near the lake at Kawana. The new premises will be big enough to warehouse all our stock (and there is plenty of it), as well as display the full catamaran range (rigged up), all our kayaks, paddleboards and of course the growing range of parts and accessories.

Tony and Gary from Topcat Alphabetical Engineering are doing a fantastic job with the signage. Pacific Power are in the process of relocating the main power sub-board and installing power and lighting circuits. Murray Peterson Builders are about to begin construction on the internal mez office and reception/ service area as well as the dividing wall to separate the warehouse from the new showroom. Lee, Chris and I have been rolling some paint onto the walls.
Can’t wait til its all finished.

When its done it will be worth a visit. We’ll keep you posted. Hoping to open in June.

Following the  success of the inaugural Hobie Island Big Day Out, Hobie Cat Australasia and its Hobie Dealers would like to invite you to the Queensland Hobie Island Big Day Out to be held on the pristine waters of Lake Cootharaba from the 26th to the 27th of May 2012.

The Hobie Island Big Day Out will be a chance to get together with other Hobie Adventure Island and Tandem Island owners and have a sail together.

Activities planned include sailing and instruction sessions.

Hmmm…. there has been speculation for some time about a mini Pro Angler. Some secrets are too hard to keep, so here it is!

I have tried it and can confirm that it is a glamour rig. There are some really neat new inovations. The seat is a piece of work on its own. It has an adjustment to alter the camber in the backrest for lumbar support. The seat can be tilted back to provide more standing room. Best of all it is removeable in seconds, to make loading easier.

I love the new Lowrance -ready feature which facilitates the fitting of Lowrance fishfinders in a protected under-hull cavity, finally giving us a reliable water temperature reading as well as excellent sounder returns. It even comes with a set of sealing grommets for the transducer cable.

Of course, the PA 12 comes with all the usual refinements we have come to expect from Hobie, as well as Turbo fins, front and centre hatch liners, tackle boxes, etc,etc.

We have started taking orders. Get your name in now, to avoid disappointment.

Mal Gray and the team at Sunstate Hobie, helped make my dream of “The Best Expedition In The World” become reality. his knowledge, expertise and ability to make things happen, was crucial in delivering a project which involved adventure, publicityand above all…. the Government!

The Mirage Adventure Island was simply the best choice of vessel I could have made. Its useability in all conditions, made it perfect for the 1600km journey, during which it was subjected to 30kt winds, baking Queensland heat, fishing (although unsuccessfully for me) and was manhandled up and down beaches and on and off our support vessel. The ability to employ paddle, pedal or sail power was the gave me thye ultimate advantage.

Would i do it again? Of Course I would!!

Queensland Tourism Ambassador

Earlier this year, Ben Southall, the former Island Caretaker, AKA Best Job in the World embarked on another Queensland Tourism project. This time, accompanied by a support vessel,  he re-traced Captain Cook’s voyage up the Queensland Coast beginning and 1770 and finishing in Cooktown. Along the way, Ben stopped at pre-arranged points where he highlighted key Queensland tourism/eco features.
His vessel of choice was none other than the award winning Hobie Mirage Adventure Island Tandem. Ben pedalled,  paddled and sailed his way 1600km up the coast sometimnes on his own, other times with a partner. On completion of the voyage, I inspected the kayak before donating it to the Sailability Whitsunday organisation. I was very impressed with the condition of the craft and all its accessories. It looked  as good as new. Ben has nothing but praise for the vessel.

Sunstate Hobie was proud to support Ben and Tourism Queensland in this initiative to encourage Queenslanders, Australians and Foreigners to spend their holiday dollars in this wonderful state of ours.
